Every year we build a gingerbread house. Usually this involves picking up a kit from the store and assembling it as a family. This year the task fell to the Little miss and I. She did a lovely job and was so excited about the beauty that was coming together before her very eyes that she kept saying, “Dad is going to love this!” or “I can’t wait to show Daddy.”
Finally the moment of the unveiling came. She dragged him into the kitchen and said ‘Look what we did, Dad!.” Dad, of course, oohed and ached over the wonder of the simple gingerbread house adorned with candy bits.
When we get to heaven, we’re going to be like that. When we take the sorrow and pain and use it for Jesus. Or when we take our ideas and talents to bring glory to his name. When we fight injustice or take all that life hands us, tears, sorrow, joy, work, talents and service, everything for His glory…we’ll present those to God, just as a child, saying…”Look what we did”. And even though he will see the imperfections in it all – he will still beam with love and pleasure.
“Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:15-16 NLT
