‘Still, there was that verse that kept coming to Maurice‘s mind. It nagged at him, followed him, woke him up at night, “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2)

This excerpt was taken from the book ‘I Never Asked for the Easy Way’. It tells the true story of a couple who felt called to start an inner city mission. This took place in the 20’s and the city was Kansas City. The mission is still thriving…but it just struck me because for some reason I thought that following God’s will is a matter of it ‘all feeling right’. In reality it’s about feeling ‘must go at all costs’. Not always but sometimes. Here’s the rest of the story…

City Union’s Mission‘s letter of invitation and that verse seemed to collide in Maurice’s thoughts no matter how he tried to distract himself. The truth was, Maurice and Ruth (Vanderberg) did not want to come to Kansas City. Later, Maurice confessed, “Don’t think that you will always feel at peace with God’s will in your life. Ruth and I were not at peace when we loaded the children into our car and made our way back to Kansas City and City Union Mission. I was not at peace. I simply knew I must go.” (page 72 I never asked for the easy way: The people who shaped City Union Mission by Juliana Vanderberg-Rohlfing)
