When we know our earthly fathers well, we can call things into being on their behalf. I could say to someone, “Go to my father’s house, he will invite you in and counsel you.” Or my husband could say “Call my dad, he would be happy to let you fish on his lake, just tell him I sent you.” The reason we could say these things is because we know and understand the hearts of our fathers, hearts that do good and are generous.
Here’s an example of Jesus doing just that with his Father: “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” (John 16:23)
When we understand God’s father heart, we can begin to say similar things on his behalf. ‘Ask God to forgive you…it is in his character (heart) to do so.’ or ‘Ask God to tell you what he thinks of you…he is full of love and compassion.’ or ‘God we ask that you bless…’ or ‘God we ask that you heal…’ all for the glory of the Father.
“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.” John 14:13 (New Living Translation ©2007)
