It was one of the best gifts I have received. It was given to me after my mom died from the women in my bible study group. I’m pretty sure it was a last minute addition to the gift basket but it started a habit that is with me today. The item: a scarf.
The one given to me was a heavy, woven floral tapestry, very soft, thick and long. At the time I was not a scarf wearer (though secretly wanted to be after living in Germany for a year), but the months following my mom’s death found me often wrapped in that scarf. The heaviness and warmth was comforting.
They say scarves are one of the few lifetime wardrobe accessories. Over the years my collection has grown. Today it’s my take along travel accessory and I usually find myself wearing one once a week. Sometimes they are just the thing to add a touch of color, or to tie an outfit together (no pun intended).
You wouldn’t think the bible would have much to say on the subject, but here it is…
Ecclesiastes 9:7-10 (from the Message)
“Seize life! Eat bread with gusto, Drink wine with a robust heart. Oh yes—God takes pleasure in your pleasure! Dress festively every morning. Don’t skimp on colors and scarves. Relish life with the spouse you love. Each and every day of your precarious life. Each day is God’s gift. It’s all you get in exchange For the hard work of staying alive. Make the most of each one! Whatever turns up, grab it and do it. And heartily!”
Fitting for today don’t you think! Happy Valentines Day!
