This week has been quite a non traditional Thanksgiving week. Our meal consisted of going to Swiss Chalet. (Of course being in Canada it was easy to skip over.) Afterwards we went to see Bethlehem Live, the story of Christmas in live form. It was a great break from the packing and moving.
So many times this week I have thought and said ‘I’m done…don’t want to come back here for a long while.’ Yet after today’s reading I’m reminded not to do things halfway. (Not pleasant…I want my next vacation be relaxing on a nice beach somewhere.)
For anyone feeling like they too just want to give up here’s a thought from the reading:
‘Take the arrows…Strike the ground.’ He struck it three times and stopped. The man of God was angry with him and said, ‘You should have struck the ground five or six times.’ (2 Kings 13:18-19)
“How striking and powerful is the message of these words! Jehoash, king of Israel, thought he had done quite well when he struck the ground ‘ three times and stopped.’
To him it seemed to be an extraordinary act of his faith, but Elijah was dissappointed because he had stopped halfway.”
Here’s to keeping going!
